You can add a calculated measure item by copying an existing one as your starting point or by building it new from scratch.
These options take advantage of shortcuts in the view toolbar and Measure Items window. They are recommended because they bundle multiple features into one spot to aid in your data editing tasks.
Options for adding measure items exist in the grid or view explorer, which are available when you right-click in either spot and use the Add option off of the pop-up menus that display.
1. In the view toolbar, click the Pick What To Do With Your Data menu.
2. In the Measure Items window, locate the existing calculated measure item that you want to copy and click its Copy icon .
3. The Add window opens with properties from the original measure item copied into the window for you to use. You can leave things as is and skip to Step 4. Or, you can adjust the properties to customize things for the new measure item.
Use the Expression section to adjust the copied expression. Click or drag and drop objects from the View Items and Functions for Expression section to the Expression section. Or, manually enter text in the Expression section. Use the Validate button as needed to check for any errors as you set up the expression.
To customize the caption expression, click the Browse button in the General section. A Caption Expression window opens for you to adjust the measure item caption. Click OK when done in that window. Typing directly in the Caption Expression field is another option for setting up a caption when your caption includes just static text.
Edit the format string using the Format drop-down list.
4. Click OK to finish adding the new measure item. You’ll be returned to the Measure Items window where the new measure item will be added to the list of existing measure items.
Note: If you click Cancel in the Add window, you will be asked to confirm that you want to discard the new measure item that you had started to add. No new measure item will be added if you choose Yes in that prompt.
5. {Optional} Use drag and drop in the Measure Items window to move the measure item to a different spot in the overall order of measure items that exist in the view.
6. Repeat Steps 2 to 5 if you want to add more measure items by doing a Copy.
7. When you’re done adding measure items, click OK in the Measure Items window to update the view with all of your changes.
8. {Optional} If you have access to view explorer and Properties windows, you can use the Properties window for each new measure item to customize other properties including Totals. From the Properties window, you can make a calculated measure item Distinct if needed.
