Introduction to Roles

Administrators use roles in combination with user profiles and user profile groups to give users access to Stratum.Viewer. Roles control which measures and dimension members a user can see while running views or accessing any window that shows such objects, for example, the Select Members and Insert Measure Items windows. If you have users who need access to all data, roles allowing all access can be set up. If you have users who only need to access a limited range of data, for example only Actual Sales data or only data for a specific sales representative or region, then roles allowing that limited access can be set up. Roles also are used to give users update access to measures.

Roles are flexible. You can assign a single role to an entire group of users or assign each user in a group a role. The second option still gives users access to the same view groups, but the data that each user sees in views is controlled by their role permissions.

Here is an example showing the second option.

One user from Group A has a role that gives access to all RepBroker members. All members display when that user runs the following view.

Another user from Group A has a role that gives access to only one RepBroker members, which means only that member displays when this user runs the same view as the previous user.
